Almost everyone adopted AI, almost nobody was transformed by it
I keep coming back to one thing: almost everyone has adopted AI, and almost nobody has been transformed by it.
The tools are the easy part. What separates the few who cross from the many who stall is the boring, hard engineering underneath. Digitizing the manual workflows. Connecting the systems that never talked to each other. And only then the architecture, the DevOps, the skills layer, and the orchestration to run agents in production.
That is a software company's worth of capability. Most small and mid-sized businesses were never built to stand it up, and the ones who try meet the token bill and the hiring problem the hard way.
Even large companies that can build it hit a wall I find fascinating. Someone has to orchestrate the agents, and that is a leadership job, while most leaders are still buried in the day to day. Going from doing the work to orchestrating the agents that do the work is a monumental shift.
